I’ve given myself permission to be slower than usual. Last night at a poetry workshop with Dr. Heather Sellers at Tombolo Books, we attendees were reminded many times to pause, to make the consideration of the short long. It was a good match to my approach to reading this year: I’ve been allowing the space between books to have more room, whether by more-often abandoning volumes that don’t sit well for me or not simply filling the time between books with another book. I’ve always been someone who’s always reading something. Saying, “I’m between books,” isn’t so common, even if for a day.
